2024 Update: The World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards have ended their partnership and will no longer offer reciprocal benefits.

If you have World of Hyatt elite status, you may wonder how to match your Hyatt status to MGM Rewards and take advantage of lucrative MGM elite benefits before your next trip to Las Vegas or another location with an MGM property.

Luckily, the process is straightforward and can be completed in just a few minutes online on the World of Hyatt Website.

This guide will walk you through the steps necessary to match your World of Hyatt status to MGM Rewards.

Once you have completed the process, you will enjoy various MGM status benefits, such as waived parking charges and waived resort fees!

What is MGM Rewards?

The MGM Rewards loyalty program allows you to earn perks for practically every dollar you spend at any MGM Resorts Resort or Casino.

You’ll be rewarded for enjoying hotel, dining, and spa activities and slot and table gaming at any nationwide MGM Rewards destination.

Your play and spending are combined into one account so that you can easily keep track of your progress. You can redeem your points for free Slot Credits, MGM Rewards Points, Tier Credits toward higher tier status, and more!

The benefits only get better the more you play. You can read more about the MGM Rewards Program here.

The Basics: World of Hyatt-MGM Status Matching

Because of Hyatt and MGM’s loyalty partnership, you can match your Hyatt elite status with MGM.

Similarly, if you hold elite status with MGM Rewards, you can also match with the World of Hyatt program to earn Hyatt status.

MGM’s loyalty program, MGM Rewards, has many advantages that make it worth signing up for. Members earn rewards for slot play, table games, dining, and entertainment at MGM Resorts.

They also get hotel discounts, priority access to buffets and taxis, complimentary self-parking, waived resort fees, and many more.

Hyatt’s World of Hyatt loyalty program is also free to join. It provides many advantages as a Hyatt elite, including complimentary breakfast, bonus points on hotel stays, reduced resort fees, suite upgrades, and many more.

Reciprocal Status Matching

Pro-Tip: Keep up your status with each program every year by repeating the process in reverse once your MGM-Hyatt status matches. This is possible because each program uses a different calendar, resulting in one month of overlap. Your MGM Rewards status expires on Jan. 31st, while Hyatt Status expires on Feb 28th (or 29th during leap years).

Step 1: Match your Hyatt status to MGM Rewards.

Step 2: When your MGM Rewards status expires on Jan. 31, use your Hyatt status to re-match back up to MGM Rewards. Make sure to do this before the last day of February.

Step 3: When your Hyatt status expires on the last day of February, use your recently-earned MGM Rewards status to re-match to earn Hyatt status again.

Step 4: Rinse and repeat every year.

Dates to Remember For “Re-Matchers”

Anytime between February 1st-February 28th: Status Match Hyatt to MGM

Since your current MGM rewards elite status expires on January 31st, it will revert to the lowest MGM status starting February 1st each year.

If you are lucky enough to have Hyatt Explorist or Globalist status in the same year, take advantage of Hyatt’s partnership with MGM by matching your World of Hyatt elite status to attain MGM Gold before your Hyatt elite status expires on the last day of February of each year.

After February 28th: Status Match MGM to Hyatt

Once you attain MGM Gold via status match before your World of Hyatt elite status expires on the last day of February, you can earn Hyatt Explorist status again by matching your MGM Gold status to the World of Hyatt elite program.

Again, take advantage of this generous MGM to Hyatt status match yearly to ensure your World of Hyatt elite status stays intact.

Important: Book through the MGM Website to Unlock MGM Benefits

Las Vegas is an exciting place to stay for many reasons, but one of the best parts about having MGM elite status is that the resort fees would be waived. This saves approximately $35 per night at hotels on the strip.

It bears repeating that booking directly through the MGM Rewards website is the only way to waive this resort fee. Therefore, reservations made with third-party online travel agencies (OTAs) or the Hyatt website will not trigger this generous benefit.

Presenting your MGM Rewards member card allows you to access other benefits, such as waived parking and special retail discounts.

Resort Fees May Need to be Manually Removed From The Bill

MGM stated that there was a chance the resort charge would not be removed automatically.

If the resort fees are not waived automatically, go to the front desk, let them know your current MGM status, and have them manually remove the charge from your bill.

Make Sure to Add Your Hyatt Account Number to Your MGM Reservations

Even though you have successfully linked and matched your Hyatt and MGM elite status, you will still need to add your Hyatt account number to your MGM reservations, at least for the first few reservations.

This might take some legwork, but I usually inform the front desk at check-in and check-out that I want my Hyatt Number connected to my MGM reservations.

It would not hurt to specify to the Front Desk too that you would like to earn World of Hyatt points and elite night credits.

That way, I can earn Hyatt points during my stay and the elite nights I need to requalify for Hyatt status.
