If you love traveling on points and miles, you already know that choosing the right premium credit card is the key to unlocking free flights and hotel stays.

In this blog post, we are diving deep into the heavyweight champion of travel cards: the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Credit Card.

Chase has loaded this card with an incredible suite of statement credits, upgraded earning rates, and premium perks that almost make it feel like they are paying you to travel.

I’ve gone through all the fine print, crunched the numbers, and pulled together everything you need to know to maximize this card’s value, so you can offset its hefty $795 annual fee (plus $195 per authorized user).

Chase Sapphire Reserve Benefits List

1. The $300 Annual Travel Credit

This is the most flexible travel credit out there.

You automatically get reimbursed for your first $300 in travel purchases every account anniversary year.

Whether it’s a flight, hotel, train ticket, or a parking garage, Chase simply wipes the charge from your statement.

The card also does not charge foreign transaction fees.

Note: You won’t earn points on the purchases covered by this credit.

2. Fast-Track Your Points (Earning Multipliers)

This credit card racks up points incredibly fast, depending on what you purchase:

  • 8x points on all purchases through Chase Travel (including The Edit).
  • 5x points on Lyft rides (through 9/30/2027).
  • 4x points on flights and hotels booked directly with the airline or hotel.
  • 3x points on dining and general travel worldwide.
  • 1x point on all other everyday purchases.

Extra Points from Bonus Categories

3. The New “Points Boost” Redemption System

Chase has retired the old flat 1.5-cent portal redemption rate and replaced it with a dynamic “Points Boost” program.

Now, when you use points to book through Chase Travel, they can be worth up to 2 cents each on select premium flights and luxury hotels (like those in The Edit collection).

Just make sure to toggle “Points Boost Only” if you’d like to check out the boosted options.

Keep in mind, for standard, non-boosted portal bookings, points are now worth 1 cent each.

To access Chase Travel, log in to your Chase Sapphire Reserve account, navigate to Benefits & Travel, then click Travel.

In the example below, I was able to reduce the number of points for my stay at the Grand Hyatt Barcelona from 63,000 to 38,545 by activating “Points Boost”.

Since I also have a $250 Edit credit, this should reduce the amount of points I need to shell out for this stay (More info about the Edit credit later in this post).

4. 1:1 Point Transfers

Because the portal no longer offers a blanket bonus, transferring your points directly to airline and hotel partners (like Hyatt, United, and Southwest) at a 1:1 ratio is more valuable than ever.

This is still the absolute best way for frugal tourists to score luxurious redemptions, such as business class flights and luxury hotels.

6. $500 Credit for “The Edit” by Chase Travel℠

The Edit is Chase’s handpicked collection of luxury hotels.

You get up to $500 in statement credits annually for prepaid bookings (two-night minimum), split into two $250 credits per booking.

The best part?

You can now use them anytime during the year!

Plus, you get VIP perks like a $100 property credit, daily breakfast for two, late check-out, and room upgrades when available.

7. NEW FOR 2026: $250 Credit for Select Hotel Brands

Just for 2026 (through Dec 31st), Chase added a brand-new, one-time $250 statement credit when you book a prepaid stay of two nights or more at specific hotel brands through Chase Travel.

Eligible brands include IHG Hotels & Resorts, Virgin Hotels, Omni, Montage, Pendry, Minor, and Pan Pacific.

Frugal Tourist Tip: If you find a hotel that is part of “The Edit” AND one of these eligible brands (like certain InterContinental properties), you can “double-dip” and stack this $250 credit with a $250 Edit credit to get $500 off a single two-night stay.

In the example below, I booked the Intercontinental Barclays in New York City, which is both an Edit property and an IHG property, for two nights.

The total amount I needed to pay in cash was $542.77, which was enough to trigger both the $250 Edit credit and the new $250 Hotel Credit. I ended up only needing to shell out $42.77 for this stay.

8. $300 Annual Dining Credit

Love dining out?

You get up to $300 a year ($150 Jan-Jun / $150 Jul-Dec) in statement credits when you eat at restaurants that are part of the Sapphire Exclusive Tables program on OpenTable.

Since many of these restaurants are pricey and limited to just a few locations nationwide, a popular strategy among points enthusiasts is to purchase gift cards for future use.

This allows you to lock in the value and hit your spending goals even if you aren’t dining there immediately.

In the example below, I used my Dining Credit to purchase gift cards at The Progress, a 1-Star Michelin Restaurant in San Francisco.

9. DoorDash & DashPass Perks (Up to $420 Value)

You get a free DashPass membership (a $120 value) for $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees through 12/31/2027.

On top of that, you get up to $300 in annual DoorDash promos.

DashPass members get up to $25 each month (a $5 monthly restaurant promo, plus two $10 promos for groceries/retail) from the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

1$10 off groceries/ retail
2$10 off groceries/ retail
3$5 off restaurants

If you have the Chase Ink Business Preferred card or the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you are eligible to get another $10 grocery credit, but you may need to create another DoorDash account or toggle between payment methods.

Frugal Tourist Tip
Skip the delivery fees by opting for pickup at places like 7-Eleven or DashMart—it’s an easy way to save a few extra dollars. Just don’t forget to toggle the “Chase monthly benefit” before you hit pay! I personally like to “stack” my errands by redeeming all my credits in one go. I’ll usually place two $10+ pickup orders at 7-Eleven, then grab a $5 treat from Starbucks or a local boba spot (see image below).

10. Lyft Pink & $120 in Ride Credits

You get up to $10 in monthly in-app Lyft credits to use on rides (up to $120 a year), running through 9/30/2027.

To set this up, you would need to delete all payment methods associated with your Lyft account, including mobile wallets like Apple Pay.

Add your Chase Sapphire Reserve card as the payment method, then order Lyft.

The $10 credit will be automatically deducted from your rides once a month (see image below)

Datapoint: I found that paying for Lyft via Apple Pay (even with the CSR linked) did not trigger the bonus. To ensure you receive your credits, add your CSR details as the primary payment method and pay directly through the Lyft app.

11. $120 in Peloton Credits

Stay fit with up to $10 in statement credits every month on eligible Peloton memberships (up to $120 annually) through 12/31/2027.

Note: This benefit requires activation. Log in to your Chase Sapphire Reserve account, navigate to Benefits & Travel, then click Benefits.

12. $288 Value in Apple Subscriptions

Get complimentary access to Apple TV (home of Apple Originals) and Apple Music.

These subscriptions run through 6/22/2027 and cost $288 per year, and require activation.

Log in to your Chase Sapphire Reserve account > Benefits and Travel > Benefits > Apple TV/Music

Apple TV requires activation

Frugal Tourist Pro-Tip: Don’t pay for music if you don’t have to! I canceled my Spotify Premium and switched to the complimentary Apple Music subscription provided by my CSR, saving a quick $10 per month through mid-2027.

13. $300 in StubHub / Viagogo Credits

If you love concerts, Broadway, or sports, you get up to $300 annually to spend on StubHub or viagogo.

Like the other credits, it’s split in half: $150 from January to June and $150 from July to December (through 12/31/2027).

Stubhub Credit

This benefit requires activation, so make sure you activate before making a StubHub purchase.

You can enroll by logging in to your Chase Sapphire Reserve account > Benefits & Travel > Benefits > Stubhub

Frugal Tourist Tip: Always stack your benefits! Before using your StubHub credit, log in to a shopping portal like AAdvantage eShopping (see image below). This simple extra step allowed me to earn American Airlines miles and Chase statement credits simultaneously with a single ticket purchase. Other popular shopping portals I use include Rakuten and Capital One Shopping.

I earned 548 American Airlines Miles from the AA shopping portal

14. Access to Chase Offers

Chase Offers is a card-linked program that provides targeted cashback at specific retailers, restaurants, and travel brands.

Unlike standard points, these are credited directly to your account as statement credits, effectively reducing your out-of-pocket costs.

I also see it as another way to significantly lower your effective annual fee on the Reserve by providing cashback on everyday purchases.

How Chase Offers Work: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Find & Activate: Log in to your Chase account via the mobile app or web browser. Scroll to the bottom of your dashboard to see the “Chase Offers” section. Crucial: You must click “Add to card” to activate an offer before you make a purchase.
  2. Targeted Deals: Offers are personalized based on your spending habits. You might see 5% to 15% back at merchants like Marriott, Starbucks, or even specialty retailers like Chewy or Kindle.
  3. Automatic Credit: Once activated, simply use your card for a qualifying purchase. The statement credit typically appears in your account within 7 to 14 business days.
  4. No Cost to Add: There is no penalty for adding an offer and not using it. It’s best practice to add anything you might use before it expires.

Frugal Tourist Tip: In the image above, I noticed I have a total of 145 Chase Offers on my Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, which were automatically added by my Cardpointers Extension, a tool I recommend.

The “Frugal Tourist” Triple-Stack Strategy
To truly maximize your Sapphire Reserve, you should “triple-stack” your savings:

Layer 1: Chase Offers: Activate a merchant-specific discount (e.g., 10% back at Marriott).

Layer 2: Shopping Portals: Purchase through a portal like Rakuten, Capital One Shopping, or AAdvantage eShopping. Make sure to use the credit card with the attached offer at checkout.

Layer 3: Base Rewards: Earn your standard points (e.g., 3x points on travel or dining) and additional rewards from the shopping portal of your choice.

Pro-Tip: If you have multiple Chase cards, check the offers for each one. Often, the same merchant will appear on your Sapphire Preferred with a different percentage or cap than on your Reserve.

15. Global Entry, TSA PreCheck®, or NEXUS Credit

Skip the security lines!

Every four years, use your card to pay your application fee for one of these trusted traveler programs, and Chase will reimburse you up to $120.

Just make sure to use your Chase Sapphire Reserve as the payment method when applying.

16. Elite Hotel Status & Custom Travel Designers

You get complimentary IHG® One Rewards Platinum Elite Status through the end of 2027.

You also gain access to “Reserve Travel Designers”, which has experts who can build you a custom itinerary to unlock hidden gems around the world (a service valued at up to $300 per trip).

17. Unmatched Travel Protections

This card acts like a premium travel insurance policy for the trips you book with it:

  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption: Up to $10,000 per person ($20,000 per trip) if you have to cancel due to illness, weather, or other reasons.
  • Trip Delay: Up to $500 for meals/hotels if you’re delayed for more than 6 hours.
  • Primary Auto Rental Coverage: Up to $75,000 for theft or collision. You can decline the rental company’s expensive insurance!
  • Lost/Delayed Luggage: Up to $3,000 per person for lost bags, and $100 per day (for up to 5 days) for essentials if your bags are delayed for more than 6 hours.
  • Travel Accident Insurance: Up to $1,000,000 in coverage.

Note: Credit card benefits, perks, and terms are always subject to change by the issuer. Always double-check your card agreement.

18. Emergency Medical & Evacuation Abroad

If you get sick or injured more than 100 miles from home, you can be reimbursed up to $2,500 for medical/dental expenses (with a $50 deductible).

If you need an emergency medical evacuation, you are covered up to $100,000.

Note: Credit card benefits, perks, and terms are always subject to change by the issuer. Always double-check your card agreement.

19. Roadside Assistance & Travel Emergency Help

You get 24/7 access to legal/medical referrals while traveling.

Plus, if your car breaks down, roadside assistance covers up to $50 per incident (such as towing, tire changes, or gas) for up to 4 times a year.

20. Top-Tier Purchase Protections & Zero Fees

  • No Foreign Transaction Fees: Perfect for international travel.
  • Purchase Protection: Covers new items against damage or theft for 120 days (up to $10,000 per item).
  • Extended Warranty: Adds an extra year to manufacturer warranties (on eligible 3-year-or-less warranties).
  • Return Protection: Reimburses you up to $500 per item if a store won’t take a return within 90 days.
  • Top Security: 24/7 fraud monitoring, an embedded chip, and Zero Liability protection, meaning you don’t pay for unauthorized charges.

Disclaimer: Please check the credit card benefits page for the most current coverage, as these are subject to change at any time.

21. The $75,000 Big Spender Bonus

If you spend $75,000 on the card in a single calendar year, you unlock a brand new tier of perks for the rest of that year and the entire following year:

  • Upgraded IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite Status
  • $250 Credit for The Shops at Chase
  • $500 Southwest Airlines Chase Travel credit
  • Southwest Airlines A-list status

Benefits Tracker

Chase provides a useful tracker to monitor the total value of the benefits you’ve redeemed.

According to my personal tracker, I have already saved at least $2,100, with over $500 in value still available to use.

This is a fantastic way to visualize the card’s worth and proves that the benefits can easily offset the $795 annual fee.

Final Thoughts

The Chase Sapphire Reserve comes with a high annual fee ($795), but as you can see from this massive list, the value you can extract is incredible.

Between the super-easy $300 travel credit, the $500 The Edit credit, the new 2026 $250 select-hotel credit, $300 in OpenTable dining, and the monthly DoorDash, Lyft, and Peloton credits, the card easily pays for itself if you use the perks.

Add in the peace of mind that comes with their unbeatable travel insurance, and it remains a top-tier choice for frequent travelers.
